Senator Bernardi Pays Tribute To ASC CEO Mark Peters

Senator Bernardi today paid tribute to exiting Chief Executive of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Mark Peters.

Senator Bernardi said that Mr Peters spent seven years helping shape Australia as an international sporting success and needs be officially recognised for his dedication and hard work.

“I was fortunate enough to have worked closely with Mr Peters while I was a board member of the ASC,” Senator Bernardi said.

“Mr Peters provided a valuable service to Australian sport and his experience and skills helped shape Australia as the powerful sporting nation we are today.”

Mark Peters had a ten-year international career in sport and coached at both a state and club level. He was president of the Australian Baseball Federation, President of the Oceania Baseball Foundation and a Board Member of the International Baseball Federation before stepping down from these positions to take on the role with the ASC.

“Under Mr Peter’s leadership, the ASC continued to influence greater community participation, and made significant contributions to Australia’s sporting success, most recently at the Beijing Olympics,” Senator Bernardi said.

“I would like to thank Mr Peters for his dedication and commitment to Australian sport. It is a sad day for Australian sport to lose such a strong advocate. I wish him all the best for the future.”
