Senator Cory Bernardi, Chair of the Senate Men’s Health Committee, today welcomed the start of Men’s Health Week.
“Men’s Health Week is a great initiative that raises awareness of men’s health issues and highlights the need for Australian men, with the help of their families and the wider community, to take charge of their own health and wellbeing,” Senator Bernardi said.
Men’s Health Week runs from 15 – 21 June and is organised by the M5 Project, which is managed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
“This year’s focus is on preventative health and encouraging men to adopt healthy behaviours,” said Senator Bernardi.
“Five Australian men die every hour from conditions that are potentially preventable.
“Investment in research, prevention and awareness is needed to address statistics like this and provide better health outcomes for men.
“Initiatives such as Men’s Health Week are important contributors to this aim.
“I encourage Australians, particularly men, to get involved in Men’s Health Week. Events are taking place throughout the country. More details are available from www.menshealthweek.com.au.”
